There is something magical about taking a blank sheet of paper and making something beautiful. This is what I try to do every day as a part of my daily art practice. I have used a wide variety of materials over the course of my art career. These include
mono-printing, acrylics, collage, watercolor, digital art and textiles. The one commonality they all share is my love of the natural world. No matter what medium I am working in, plants, landscapes, and cityscapes are almost always present.
I began making art in the early 1970’s when I lived in Key West Florida. The wide variety of tropical plants everywhere delighted me and I began painting them in watercolors. Banana plants were my favorite plants to draw and paint. The lush vegetation was so inspiring. Living in the Sonoran desert in Tucson, Arizona was quite the opposite experience. There were still plants and cactus to inspire me but in a very different way. I made a lot of mono-prints during my time in Arizona.
Living in Amherst I have been inspired by the buildings more than anything else. I love to walk downtown nearly every day and study all the different building and signage to incorporate into my latest collage series.
My years as a graphic designer in book publishing has really informed my work and I still enjoy working as a graphic designer whenever I can. I currently help design marketing materials for the Amherst Woman’s Club which I thoroughly enjoy!
I hope you enjoy my work. Thank you for looking.
