Figuring it all out…..

Fall on the Muddy River

I am still busy adjusting to my new life here in Brookline.

Things are the same here but different. They are different because I am older now and trying to figure out what I can and cannot do. For example, my building has a lovely gym. There are many different pieces of equipment. My issue is that I am a little intimidated by them. I am a small person and they seem rather huge to me. It seems like trying to get on a horse! I could really use some lessons on using the equipment. A friend did show me one of the cross training bikes and how to use that. It seemed quite doable to me until I went to use it the following day and it was broken. I think that could be a problem with a gym that doesn’t really get maintained the way a professional gym would. I hope that it gets fixed soon since it was easy for me to get on and off.

One thing I used to do to stay fit was walk over to the pool, do 20 laps and walk home. I am not sure that I can do that now. The walk over is about a mile. So a 2 mile walk plus all those laps could be a lot. In Tucson I was able to ride my bike nearly every single day of the year. That really kept me in shape.

So for now I will just continue with my 3 mile walks. That I can do. For now anyway. Once the weather turns and I won’t be going out walking in snow and ice I will certainly have to figure out an indoor training program. In Amherst I walked up and down the stairs in my building. I could do that here too I suppose but it is so boring.

I am also still trying to figure out where to make my art. The space in front of the window where I have my desk is much too bright right now. I have ordered shades and they will be here in a few weeks. Until then I am mostly working on the kitchen table.
