Watercolors and Homer
Tiny Landscape Number 6 Watercolor on paper.
The other day we went to the Museum of Fine Arts to see the new Winslow Homer exhibit. I was so entranced by his skies that I could barely see anything else. I came home so inspired and have been trying to refresh my watercolor memory. It is funny how easy it is to forget how to work in a particular media when you haven’t worked in it in a while. I do love watercolor so I am going through a lot of paper right now to get back in watercolor shape!
Speaking of getting in shape, I think I may need to forget about the gym. At least for a while. I hurt my ankle on the treadmill of all things. It looks so simple but I realized pretty quickly that I was walking differently on it and I was hurting myself. My ankle is getting better slowly but I really need to be more careful. I will just stay with my normal walking habit. Adjusting to age related limitations is hard. We all age differently and 75 is not the new anything! It is difficult to wrap my head around what things I can no longer do. But I count my blessings every day for the things I still CAN do.
I am really loving being back home in Brookline. We are seeing old friends and neighbors, having lots of company and just enjoying city life in general. Being able to get around via Uber is wonderful. In Amherst there was really no Uber to speak of. At least not that we could find. Once when we were out for ice cream, a UMass student asked us of we could give her a ride back to campus. Apparently she found an Uber to take her to the ice cream stand but none to come pick her up! Of course we obliged!
There is a wonderful new Asian grocery store here in Coolidge Corner now where the Gap used to be. They have all manner of wonderful foods, sauces, oils etc. And they have the best baby bok choy I have ever eaten. I have become a bok choy addict! I just sauté some garlic, leeks, mushrooms and bok choy and serve it over rice or pasta. So good!
